Evolving Tools: Bubbl.us

At risk of arguing a generality, I have been generally impressed with Web 2.0’s ability to evolve with time.  The initial Internet tools of the 90s seem less committed to improving and evolving to make themselves increasing relevant to users.  There are exceptions, certainly, but generally evolution has been the rule rather than the exception.

Bubbl.us is one such tool.  I have traditionally not been a fun of concept maps, Inspiration and other visual organization tools but I find myself relying on those tools increasingly for presentations and brainstorming sessions.

I tried Bubbl.us upon first release over a year ago and found it interesting but seriously lacking in tools for sharing and using the concept maps in any sort of meaningful way.  I was recently at a training that suggested using it and I logged back in and found that the tool had evolved to become a powerful visual mapping tool.

The greatest part?  Bubbl.us allows the user to export their handiwork in multiple formats, including exporting it into a embedable box.

I was able to complete a basic concept map on the Causes of the Reformation in just a few minutes and export it to…

…an embedable box:

…a jpeg

You can even print the document, which is easily redirected to your favorite PDF creator.

All-in-all, this is a quite useful tool.  It has become part of my day-to-day toolbox.  Enjoyl
