PROTECS Workshop 2009 -2010
PROTECS Workshop 2009 -2010
Our grant, PROTECTS (Providing Relevant, On-going Technology-rich Education for Classroom Success) based out of Lincoln School District focuses on these areas:
*Training on the new Technology and Library Standards
*Successfully integrating Web 2.0 (the collaborative web: blogs, wikis, social bookmarking, voice/video collaboration, etc.) into current instruction
*Best practices integrating technology into the curriculum
*Creating a Online Personal Learning Network (connection teachers virtually)throughout the state of Montana and beyond
*Engaging and enhancing student learning by training teachers to use technology rich lesson design
*Lesson design focusing on Problem Based Learning and Inquiry Based Instruction
*Keeping teachers in the classroom by providing online training with face-to-face trainings occurring on non-school days
Jason and I are looking to add 10 more individuals to the 15 participants paid for by the grant. These 10 individuals would be added into the grant on a "buy in" system. These 10 individuals will have an identical experience to the 15 grant participant. They have the same expectations and receive the same benefits. The benefits for the individuals involved are:
*Three face-to-face trainings (55 hrs contact time)
*Two semesters of online training (80 hrs contact time)
*iPod for listening to podcasts, Flip video camera for recording lessons and student use, wireless slate to interact with projected computer anywhere in the classroom, and a projector cart and speakers to build a multimedia presentation station
*Option for 9 UM continuing Ed credits @ $125 per credit
*135 renewal units
In addition to the individual training received by the participating teacher(s), Jason and I are offering 6 hrs of online workshops for your entire staff. They will be delivered online which will give you the flexibility to use the training where it fits in the year. The three two hour workshops are: The New Technology Standards, What is Web 2.0, and The New Library Standards. We will work with the technical contact in your district to setup access to these workshops for your entire staff.
We have a two tier pricing system for this training opportunity. The reason for the tiers is that some districts already provide a laptop and projector to their teachers so the additional purchase is unnecessary.

The kind of teachers we are looking for:
Jason and I are looking for teachers that have displayed a willingness to learn and integrate technology into their classroom. The teacher(s) should be self starters that are motivated to be a team player and stick to deadlines. They need to commit to the process fully and attend all trainings both online and face-to-face.
More Information:
Jason and I just created a video for the WM-CSPD workshop in Polson that give an overview the PROTECS grant with some participants reaction.
